On Friday, September 28, 1990, the Chicago Tribune,
published an extensive article on Dr. Juliet E.K.
Walker's life long research and dedication to sharing
with the world the life and history of Free Frank
and New Philadelphia. The 1775 word article is entitled:
FREED FROM OBSCURITY, Chicago
Tribune, 28 September 1990. Pg.01.5, and in painstaking
detail shed light on “Dr. Walker's quest, both
personal and professional … to put her great-great-grandfather's
gravesite on the state's map and into public consciousness.”
As a result of Dr. Walker's efforts, Free Frank's
gravesite was listed not only in the National
Register of Historic Places but also the
State of Illinois named a portion of Interstate 72,
which runs through Pike County where New Philadelphia
Free Frank McWorter Memorial Highway.
In addition to having Free Frank's grave site listed
in the National Register of Historic Places, in her
continued efforts to generate public interest in the
history of black business activity during the age
of slavery, in 1990 Dr. Walker retraced Free Frank's
route, by walking from Pulaski County, Kentucky to
Pike County, Illinois. USA Today,
